Buffalo Central Terminal

My history at the Central Terminal is as old as I am, we spent many Sunday morning’s with our grandfather Joe Rizzo, picking up the Italian newspapers “Il Progresso” off the trains that would bring them in from NYC.  So when I had the opportunity to work with the Central Restoration Corporation and Russ Pawlak back in 2001 I jumped in.  I’ve done what I could by documenting as much as I could and it has always been great.  The crew is now getting ready to launch a new website shortly so I jumped in to help make some new images for the site and captured this great shot of a layer of fog forming in the cold building with the warm temps outside.  Enjoy!

My Other Atlantis – Paradise Island, The Bahamas

I’m not usually one to complain about the weather, there’s not really anything that any of us can do to change it, except run in the other direction!

Fireworks explode over the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas on Thursday April 10, 2014

Well, that happened a few weeks ago after I had to shovel the driveway for the 3rd time, here at the start of April, I’ll admit it, I snapped and all the marketing money that the folks from the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas have been spending in the Northeast markets, this really long winter, paid off for them.  I’m not even sure I knocked the snow off my boots as I marched in the door and into my office and sat down in front of my computer.  I peeled my gloves off and starting fevorishly knocking the keys on my keyboard until the deed was done, booking a quick get-a-way to what had become my son Nicolas’ favorite place on the planet, via our TV, the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

It’s been about 6 years since our last big family vacation and Nic is now 8, so it could be just down to the islands to sit on the beach or between the palm trees, we needed to have a ton of things for him to do and Atlantis really fit that bill.

I wasn’t really prepared for the massive onslaught of  daily cruise ship passengers that pay a hefty fee to come and soak up all the lounge chairs next to the best pools and slides, but had to deal with it immediately.  It made the week a little bit less relaxing, but that’ll be another post.  I’ll be loading a few more images to accompany this post as well.

Anyway, there was a crazy 3 minute fireworks show on a random Thursday evening, which no one knew about or could explain why, but we were back in our room so I grabbed my tripod and was able to make a pretty nice pic from our terrace!  The property is really beautiful.  Enjoy!

Most of you know, my 1st and most loved Atlantis relationship is with the Space Shuttle Atlantis 🙂

2014 March Madness in Buffalo!

So here we are again, as lucky as we could be to have the tourney come back to Buffalo and allow us in on some of the fun.  It’s been 4 years since the show graced the indoor sports building down on the water and people are pumped.  I’ll be with a big group of Orangemen all day and anything’s possible, so stay tuned!

Well the house was hoping on Thursday night as the Orange moved on to face the upset Dayton Flyers who had knocked off Ohio State in the earlier game.  Here’s a pic of the 2014 Orange Bowl

The First Niagara Center in Buffalo is filled with Orange!

We had the pleasure of hanging out with SU star Dwayne “Pearl” Washington again this tournament

Pearl & me

Saturday’s game against the upstart Dayton Flyers was a rough one.  The Orangemen were only able to muster 20 points in the first half and went 0 for 10 from outside the arch and were unable to find the answers for a red hot Dayton and lost 55-53.  Here’s a last second 3 attempt for the win by Tyler Ennis that just missed the mark.  🙁

Tyler Ennis misses the 3 at the buzzer and the Orangemen fall to the Fylers of Dayton 55-53

Here’s a quick peek at the Arena in 2010 when Syracuse took on Gonzaga in front of a packed orange bowl.

Let’s hope for the best and a fun and safe day in downtown Buffalo.  I’ll be updating this post with info and pics so check back!

Around WNY

After a long hard winter this year, yesterday was beautiful day here in Buffalo, NY, so I decided to charge up the Phantom Quadcopter and go and check on some of the projects I’m working on and others that I have outside interests in and this is what I saw.

The site of the new UB School of Medicine at the Corner of Main & High Streets

From there I headed down to the waterfront to catch a glimpse of the new HarborCenter development, and the complex is cranking along and looking great!

The new HarborCenter complex is sprouting up nicely!

Here’s a view of the Canalside space also where there has been a tremendous amount of development, some slower to happen, The Aud site and some taking place with great speed redefining the waterfront space.  Now fill the Seneca One Tower back up!  The building is in the heart of all the activity!

The Skyway over looks all the new development on the waterfront

The Seneca One Tower stands tall in the midst of all the new development

Finally, the Uniland Development Corporations newest downtown project at 250 Delaware and the corner of Chippewa will house the new World Head Quarters for Delaware North Companies in August of 2015.

Demolition started yesterday on the current building and over the next 18 months the new property will rise in this space.
